Margi Cole, Artistic Director and founder of The Dance COLEctive, graduated from the Alabama School of Fine Arts, received a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As an instructor Margi has taught in Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Alabama and at the American College Dance Festival. She has also been acknowledged for her choreography and performing in Chicago by nominations from the Ruth Page Awards and an Artists Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council. Cole's works have been showcased in venues which include: Northwestern University, The Alabama Theatre, the Alys Stephens Center, The Harold Washington Library, and the Illinois State Fair. The Alabama Ballet, Sprinfield Ballet Company, the Birmingham Museum of Art and Columbia College have commissioned Cole's work. Margi is active in the Chicago dance community as an arts administrator, dancer and choreographer.

Session 1: Developing Your Own Dance Company

This introductory session covers how to properly develop a non-profit dance organization. The session includes information on company incorporation, board member development and defining your artistic mission. Information learned in the session applies to everything from administration to working in the studio.
