Linda has worked in the video production business for over 20 years and owned Concept One Media for the last 20. What started as a part-time business. She wanted to take the time to be with her two kids, Kate (15) and Kyle (12) when they were young, has grown into a full-time business, with 7 full-time employees and many other part-time sub-contractors (all in the video business).
She has a B.A. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Major in Radio-TV Production and Writing and minors in Advertising and Film Production. It was a great school with lots of hands on experience and teachers from business. Her greatest education came from a client however, she happened to be taping his seminars and thru him, she learned about marketing her business and some valuable lessons about partners. Her business now produces video for television commercials, sports, training, marketing, fundraising, recruitment, conventions, meetings and seminars, interviews for broadcast and the web, and interactive DVD's and CD-ROMS for clients along with producing animation for all of these applications.
She has great employees and a very satisfying career that enables her to shoot when she wants to (and yes she still wants to, especially the sports stuff, Hello PGA) or just run the business, which she enjoys immensely. In her spare time she takes care of her kids and husband, skis, reads, travels, and golfs as much as possible.
Session 1: What is Your Real Business
This presentation will be on marketing yourself and your business. Something you must plan for from the beginning, otherwise, simply, you will fail. And you must continue to evolve and pursue your marketing strategies thru-out your business career, especially if you are successful early. How her business evolved (yours will too) and how she tried to meet the challenges of an ever changing marketplace. Also...How I use the web to market my business and marketing ideas for the 21st Century.
Session 2: Giving Back...Working with Non-Profits for profit and more
Non-profits, not-for-profit. How can you make any money working with these organizations? We do video work for a number of not-for-profit agencies, The American Cancer Society, Trinity Services, Sarah's Inn and Relay for Life. Why? If you are the altruistic type anyway, this is a great way to get your work seen by a great number of people in a great number of positions. People that volunteer for these agencies or are on the boards of many of them work with a number of larger corporations. And although we do offer a discount, or do some work for free (there is always the tax write-off), they do have budgets for advertising, marketing, fund-raising, etc. So, it's not just for the "feel good" (believe me it does though), but for the goodwill you are putting into the community and getting your name out there. We do more during our slow periods of the year, so it keeps us busy, even if it's not at the full price. It's also a great example to set for your employees.
